School of Music Events

The College of Music and Performing Arts is committed to offering both a safe campus experience and performance opportunities for our students during the Coronavirus pandemic. Performances will be live streamed or presented through pre-recorded video. The performances will not be open to in-person audiences. The event schedule will continue to be announced as the semester progresses.

    Violist Sarah Cote and guests present a recital of works by Leo Sowbery.

    Though well known to organists and church choir members, composer Leo Sowerby, was a prolific composer in every genre except for opera and ballet.

    Belmont faculty guests are: Dr. Douglas Murray, organ, Professor of English; Dr. Andrew Risinger, organ, Professor of Organ; Dr. Kristian Klefstad, piano, Professor of Piano.

  • String Chamber Orchestra

    The String Chamber Orchestra, led by Dr. Robert Gregg, will present two composers in their live stream performance. The composers featured represent the vast range of musical style from the 1690's to 1990's. Henry Purcell is well known for his Baroque music. George Walker is notable for breaking down race barriers in 1990’s Classical Music and was the first African American to win the Pultizer Prize in Music.

    Dan Lochrie, bass clarinet

    Belmont clarinet faculty, Dan Lochrie, will perform a bass clarinet recital comprised of contemporary works for the bass clarinet and a World Premier of Lochrie's composition for bass clarinet, Garden Intruder. Lochrie will be joined by Belmont faculty Robert Marler, piano, and guest performer Katherine Kohler, clarinet.

  • Wind Ensemble

    Belmont Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Barry Kraus

    Members of the Belmont Wind Ensemble will present two 30-minute and socially distanced performances featuring classical and contemporary chamber music. Highlights of the program include selections from Charles Gounod’s late Romantic masterwork Petite Symphonie, Stravinsky’s Octet for wind instruments, antiphonal brass music of Giovanni Gabrieli, and the jazz-influenced Dance Mix by American composer Rob Smith.

    The concert by the Wind Ensemble will premiere at 7:00 pm on the McAfee Concert Hall Live Stream.

It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back." It is a contemporary song cycle which weaves characters and history together, illuminating the timelessness of self-discovery.

    Tickets are on sale at this link. Single Tickets are $10, Family Tickets (multiple viewers) are $20.
