Community Events

Watkins Community Education programs are taught by practicing artists—leaders in the creative community who have expert knowledge of artistic processes as well as of the broader art world environment. We offer courses, workshops, and camps for artists of all ages and skills that encourage creative thinking through both foundational art instruction as well as curriculum in specific visual arts media.

Watkins Community Education doesn't just provide programs that enhance our cultural vitality here in Nashville; we are also an advocate for the arts to make sure that our creative community has a seat at the table when civic decisions are made. Join us in advocating for the arts across our state by joining Tennesseans for the Arts or buying a specialty license plate . The specialty license plate program helps invest in arts centered programs for schools, nonprofit and public organizations across all 95 counties in Tennessee, including our community art programs here at Belmont!

Have a question? We have answers.

Below are easy-to-find answers to some frequently asked questions about our Community Education policies.

It’s easy! Register online or by phone. Online registration uses SSL technology to ensure that your credit card and personal information are transmitted safely. Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover, checks, and cash are accepted.

The registration deadline is typically two weeks prior to the first day of class. If there is availability, registrations may be extended, but we discourage waiting given that a class may be full or canceled.

Yes. If a class is full, we will put your name on a waiting list. If a space opens up in the class, the persons on the waiting list will be contacted in the order they are received.

Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and Discover.

No. Full payment for tuition and fees is due at the time of registration.

Yes, classes may be canceled or combined if a minimum enrollment of five students is not met at least one week before the class begins. Students will be informed of cancellations prior to the first day of class so that alternative plans may be made and/or full refunds be issued.

Refunds requested eight or more days prior to the first day of class will be refunded 100 percent of tuition and fees, less a $25 processing charge. Classes dropped seven days or fewer prior to the beginning of class will be refunded at a 60 percent of the tuition rate, less a $25 processing charge. No tuition or fees will be refunded beginning the first day of class. Request for refunds must be received during our business hours between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. If a request for a refund is sent over the weekend, it will be considered received on Monday.

We understand that absences do happen. Because these are non-credit classes, students do not receive a grade nor are they penalized for absences. However, instructors are not obligated to provide make-up time, and we do not prorate tuition for missed classes.

Students should wear comfortable clothing. Some materials used in classes may stain clothing. A smock or apron may be desired. For safety reasons, no roller skates or shoes with wheels embedded into the soles are allowed.

It is our policy not to give out contact information for our instructors. However, you may email or call our office, and we will gladly relay a message to your instructor and have him/her contact you.
