Belmont in Hollywood

Belmont in Hollywood is a summer study and work opportunity where selected Motion Pictures students can apply classroom learning to specific career goals in the Motion Pictures industry.

Belmont in Hollywood also serves as an immersion experience within the motion pictures industry. Interns gain practical skills in state-of-the-art technical facilities and are exposed to the expertise of renowned producers, directors, screenwriters, cinematographers & agents.

Program Curriculum

You will take the Belmont in Hollywood internship course, which is three credit hours and counts as a MOT elective, concurrently with your internship. You will register for this course and it requires:

  • Attendance at the Belmont in Hollywood Boot Camp in Nashville
  • Attendance at the Belmont in Hollywood Coverage Workshop in Nashville
  • The eight-week internship program in Los Angeles
  • Attendance at all weekly Belmont in Hollywood guest speaker events. These will be scheduled by the Internship Administrator and will include dinner. You will be graded on the quality of the research paper you write about the guest.
  • Weekly assignment emailed to Will Akers: a.) Internship Journal and b.) What I’m Learning & Advice for Future Students.

An additional MOT elective course is usually offered. 
A selection of Belmont general education courses will also be available online, including: Third Year Writing, Religion Junior Cornerstone.
Internships

Belmont in Hollywood allows you to have one or two Internships. Belmont in Hollywood will do our best to secure you an internship, but it is a shared responsibility. Our assistance is predicated on your punctually turning in the required deliverables. For assistance with securing an internship, contact Belmont's Office of Career and Professional Development.

Program Dates



Summer Semester: June and July


Cost


Belmont Tuition (full-time status), plus:
▶ Belmont in Hollywood Fee: $5,000 (covers housing and group excursions)
▶ A $500 non-refundable deposit is required with signed Participation & Acceptance Agreement and Disclosure Form, and is credited to the total program fee


Credit


▶ You may earn a minimum of 3 hours of Belmont University credits and must participate in an internship.


Housing


▶ You will be housed with up to 3 Belmont students at the Toluca Hills Oakwood Corporate Housing facility in Los Angeles, CA. You can expect to be placed in furnished apartment living that includes a living area, dining area, kitchen, 2 bedrooms with 2 people in each room, and a private bathroom attached to each bedroom. Laundry facilities are onsite. In LA, you will need to have access to a car for daily transportation.


Other Expenses


▶ A typical student spends $500 - $800 per month on food, gasoline, laundry and entertainment.

Program Staff

Belmont in Hollywood is administered by staff and faculty in both Nashville and Los Angeles. In Nashville, the Motion Pictures Department Chair manages the application process and communicates with all students prior to their arrival in Hollywood. In Hollywood, the Belmont West Onsite Administrator coordinates move-in and mentors you through your internship experience.
