Seduction of the Lesser Gods: Life, love, church, and other dangerous idols Description: Seduction of the Lesser Gods: Life, love, church, and other dangerous idols (Leslie Williams). The author asks: “Can you be: committed to doing good, eager to serve the Lord and still somehow miss what God truly HAS for you?” The book helps us identify and capture the ‘lesser gods’ in our own lives that keep us from truly knowing and loving our God… You will ENJOY this book and will have very new ways to think about possible gods in your life that limit you. Celebration of Discipline Description: This will be a study of the ancient practice of the spiritual disciplines. Our primary text will be Richard Foster’s, Celebration of Discipline, but we will also see what the Bible and other important texts have to say about practicing the spiritual disciplines as a way of growing deeper in relationship with Jesus. Faith and Film Description: Since the beginning of the motion picture industry, filmmakers have presented the Bible and Christian teachings in films. Mel Gibson and Cloud 10 Pictures have recently brought the "Jesus film" and the "end times" back into the limelight, but Christian themes are not limited to films based specifically on the Bible. In this group we will take a look at five "secular" films, and discuss Christian themes found in each, what we can learn from them, and how a Christian worldview affects the way we watch films and what we get from them. Participants will be expected to watch the films before each meeting and be prepared to discuss them. All films are available in the Belmont Library:

We will walk through this book, chapter by chapter, and through conversation and contemplation begin to examine what it means to be a Christian in the 21st Century. Manna and Mercy: God's Unfolding Plan to Mend the Universe Description: Manna and Mercy: A Brief History of God’s Unfolding Promise to Mend the Entire Universe is a hand printed Bible survey written with imagination, clarity, humor, and cartoons. This study is built around the twin themes of food sharing and forgiveness, as will our conversations.
