Jimmy T. Davis, Ph.D.
Dean of the University College

Jimmy Davis completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi, and holds a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Indiana University. He has served as the Dean of Belmont's University College since its inception in 1998 and is also a Professor of Communication Studies. In addition to his administrative duties, Dr. Davis teaches a First Year Seminar class to incoming freshmen each Fall titled "Having a Mind of Your Own: Conflicts Between Culture and Individual Thought. " Each Spring Dr. Davis teaches "Communication and Sustainability," a Social Science course which fulfills the Junior Cornerstone graduation requirement.
Dr. Davis's administrative work at Belmont includes focused attention on improving our ability to be responsive to the learning needs of adult students. In particular this means working to understand the circumstances that bring adult learners back to school keep them in school through the completion of their degrees. These efforts take the form of staff development and process improvement within the University College, as well as service on a wide variety of campus committees like the University Strategic Marketing Team and the University Budget Team.
Outside of Belmont Dr. Davis is a devoted Soccer Dad, loves old-time fiddle music, and is an avid woodworker and gardener.
