SPRING ORIENTATION SCHEDULE | JANUARY 3-4, 2019


 THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2019

8 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.         Residence Hall Move-In

New students move into their residence halls as assigned by the Office of Residence Life in their move-in packets. Note: For students arriving before this date, the resident halls will open on January 3, 2019 at 8:00am. Students will be able to move into their room at this time.


SCHOOL OF MUSIC PLACEMENT ASSESSMENTS

Students who have auditioned for and been accepted to the School of Music and who have declared music as their major must participate in placement tests that will be used during academic advising later today. Refer all questions related to Music Placement Tests directly to School of Music at 615-460-6408.

STUDENT & PARENT SESSIONS

Check-in with the Towering Traditions Orientation Program. Pickup your schedule booklet, nametag, complete your pre-registration and FERPA forms, and visit the Office of Campus Security to take your picture for your Belmont ID.

Welcome to Belmont! We are so excited you are here and are becoming part of the Belmont family.  Join us as we start your time hearing from university administration and all the exciting plans we have for you during Spring Orientation.

1:15 – 1:30 p.m.              Spiritual Life at Belmont | Massey Performing Arts Center

Belmont believes that your spiritual life is a crucial aspect of your holistic development. This session gives you a glimpse into how Belmont approaches faith and spirituality.

1:30 – 1:50 p.m.              Life Under the Tower | Massey Performing Arts Center

We want you to make the most of your Life Under the Tower. In this session, we will discuss the educational opportunities here at Belmont, and how you can own your educational experience.

1:50 - 2:00 p.m.               Bruin Books | Massey Performing Arts Center

Bruin Books is Belmont’s textbook ordering system designed to offer students an easy, seamless, price-competitive, and direct-ship service. In this session, we will cover all things Bruin Books making your book selection process as simple as possible.

2:00 – 2:15 p.m.              Investing in Your Belmont Education | Massey Performing Arts Center

The Office of Student Financial Services assists students and parents in developing a plan to successfully invest in their Belmont education. This session will provide information on payment schedules, tuition, fees, and other information associated with your student account.


STUDENT ONLY SESSIONS

2:30 – 3:00 p.m.              Academic Planning | McWhorter Hall 110 & 114 and Wilson Music Building 121

Students will learn the ins-and-outs of class registration through the university portal, MyBelmont.  This interactive presentation will answer all your questions on how to plan towards your degree, use Classfinder, and be prepared for the registration process.   

3:00 – 3:10 p.m.              Travel to Course Registration Planning Rooms

3:10 – 4:00 p.m.              Course Registration Planning by Academic College/Major | Required of all students

Students learn the course registration process from the academic college/major and will build a course schedule before class registration opens. 

4:00 p.m.                         Course Registration Opens

By participating in Spring Orientation, you receive pre-access to register for spring courses.  Your class registration access will be open today, January 3, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. until tomorrow, January 4, 2019 at 7:00 a.m.  This period will allow you to modify your schedule after you leave Course Registration and before current Belmont students have access to the system.  On January 4, 2019 at 7:00 a.m., the general class registration period will reopen for all current Belmont students for the add/drop period.  The last day for registration/schedule changes/drop with refund, is Monday, January 14, 2019 by 11:00 p.m.

5:00 – 6:15 p.m.              New Student Dinner | Harrington Place Dining in Johnson Center Dining Hall

New Students enjoy a complimentary dinner prepared by the Belmont Dining Services. Use your meal coupon that you received at check-in to get your free meal.

6:15 -9:00 p.m.                Meeting Your Bruin Community | Meet in Johnson Center Dining Hall

Join the Orientation Council and connect with other new students. The group will meet in the Harrington Place Dining Hall, and then connect in one of the many student spaces on campus. This relaxed gathering will provide you with an opportunity to meet your fellow Bruins!


PARENT SESSIONS

2:15 – 3:00 p.m.              Parent Reception in the GIG and Student Art Gallery

This break will give parents a chance to stretch your legs and see Belmont’s GIG (Gallery of Iconic Guitars). Key faculty and staff will also be present to answer questions and help you connect to the Belmont community.

3:00 – 3:30 p.m.              Administrative Resources for Parents | Gabhart Student Center

Belmont offers an educational experience allowing students to develop critical thinking skills through a liberal arts education while also pursuing a specific academic discipline. The Office of the Registrar will provide information on academic policies, regulations, and information regarding your student’s enrollment.

3:30 - 4:30 p.m.                Life At Belmont | Gabhart Student Center

Life at Belmont is full of possibilities and opportunities. In order to give you a picture of Life at Belmont, the next session highlights several key departments on campus. Lineup Includes: Campus Security, Career and Professional Development, Leadership Opportunities, Student Support, & Parent Programs 

4:30 p.m.                          Reconnect with your Students

Most students will complete course registration between 4:15-5:00 p.m. You will be able to connect with your student once they complete course registration and the parent programming concludes. Students will continue our student only programming with the New Student Dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the Harrington Place Dining.

What better way to hear about life at Belmont than from current Belmont students? In this session, the Orientation Council will share tips and insights from their experience of life under the tower.

9:30 – 10:00 a.m.               Thrive | Gabhart Student Life Center

As a member of Belmont University, each decision you make impacts the Bruin community. We strive to be a community that cares for each other, and makes choices that positively impacts individuals and the Belmont community at large. Thrive is a discussion on real life social choices and dynamics you could encounter during your college career and the story-altering impact of those choices. 

10:00 – 11:00 a.m.             Student Life at Belmont | Gabhart Student Center

Life at Belmont is full of opportunities to grow in and out of the classroom. This session highlights several opportunities for you to connect with the Bruin community. From Student Organizations, to Greek Life, to the University Ministries Office, come learn about ways to be a part of the Belmont story. 

SESSION LINE UP INCLUDES: University Ministries, Belmont State of Mind, Student Activities and Organizations, Fitness & Recreation, Convocation, Study Abroad, Student Leadership, Counseling Center 

11:00 a.m.                           Campus Tour: Including Finding Classrooms & Key Areas on Campus

Taking Care of the Details            

We know that the start of your semester is a busy time filled with last minute appointments and details. We’ve designed the orientation schedule so that you can visit on-campus offices as well as run important errands. At this time, the Orientation Council will be available to help point you in the right direction to take care of your last-minute needs. 

All on-campus offices are open from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. today.  Walk-in appointments are available at many offices you may wish to visit and these offices can assist you in answering questions you might have regarding your time at Belmont.   We’ve created a list of suggested items that can help you get your academic year started.


Students Living on Campus

For those living on campus, students will receive more information about move-in after housing assignments are made in early December. More specific individual information will follow in December.
