Summer Study in Florence
SUMMER STUDY IN FLORENCE 2009
Students and accompanying faculty will spend 4 weeks taking classes at Florence University of the Arts, followed by a 4-day excursion in Rome. The Summer program runs from May 26th to July 1st, 2009.
COURSES: Students will receive 6 hours of credit for the successful completion of their course work. Students may concentrate all 6 hours in Italian, combine 3 hours of Italian with one academic or one studio course, or select any two academic or any two studio courses. Florence University of the Arts generally offers Summer studio courses in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, interior design and fashion design; art and architectural history courses; and a wide selection of history, sociology, business, political science and literature courses. HOUSING: Students will live together in two or three bedroom apartments located near the city center. All housing is within easy walking distance of the school, grocery stores, central market, post-office, restaurants, train and bus stations and ATM machines. All apartments have fully-equipped kitchens and bedrooms, and include washing machine.
TRAVEL: During the weekends students will be encouraged to travel to nearby cities and towns, either with faculty or friends, or to participate in one of the optional excursions sponsored by Florence University of the Arts. Travel connections by train or bus are readily available to cities across the country as well as along the coast.
COSTS: The program fee is $8808. This fee includes all Belmont and FUA tuition charges, housing in private apartments in Florence and a private hotel in Rome, four group meals, group rail travel between Florence and Rome, train station taxi service, Worldwide Health insurance, a Roma Pass and an International Student ID. Additional costs that are not covered by this program fee include round-trip airfare, class supplies, personal expenses for travel and meals, museum/site admissions, and gifts/souvenirs. Students are advised to budget an additional $2200-$2500 for these personal expenses.Unpredictable currency fluctuations may affect the actual cost of the trip.
DEADLINES: If you are interested in the Summer 2009 Belmont in Italy program, contact Professor David Ribar or Professor Francesca Muccini now, or stop in the Rasmussen Center for International Education to pick up an application packet. Applications can be picked up now until January 16, 2009. Please download this checklist, which describes the application and registration process in detail. All your application materials, recommendation letters and a non-refundable $500 program deposit must be submitted to the Center by January 30, 2009. Because of registration deadlines, absolutely no applications applications will be accepted after this date. All students accepted for the Summer 2009 program must attend four group orientation sessions that will be scheduled during the Spring semester.
