Shelley Jewell is the Director of the Office of Study Abroad (OSA). She received her B.A. in International Economics and Sociology from Emory University and her M.Ed. in International Education Policy and Management from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. During her undergraduate career, she participated in a semester study abroad program at the National University of Ireland, Galway. Shelley has traveled throughout Europe, Singapore, and Australia.
Prior to coming to Belmont, Shelley was the Assistant Director of the Global Education Office at Vanderbilt University where she focused on increasing abroad opportunities for students through curricular integration and scholarships as well as expanding a service-learning study abroad program to six countries. Additionally, she was the site director for undergraduate engineering students examining water resource management in Melbourne, Australia. Shelley also held a position at the Vanderbilt International Office as a program coordinator where she liaised with faculty and assisted with the development the university’s international partnerships and strategy.
In 2009, she was awarded a Fulbright International Education Administrator (IEA) grant to Germany and spent four weeks visiting educational institutions and governmental organizations in Germany. She has also served on the selection committee for future Fulbright IEA recipients. Shelley is an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the Tennessee Association of International Educators (TAIE) and the Forum on Education Abroad. Outside of her role at Belmont, Shelley enjoys spending time with her daughter, husband, and three dogs as well as traveling and sewing.
