Talent Buying & Concert Promotion Strategies in New York City

This course focuses upon the business of buying, booking, and selling entertainment.  The course will involve an in-depth, real world look at routing, offers & contracts, negotiating deal points & riders, promoting & producing live events, and show settlement.  Industry experts will explain contract provisions; including indemnification, breach, liability, and force majeure; and discuss the financial positions of the varied stakeholders. Students will job shadow top booking agents, concert promoters, and venue executives in New York City.  (6 hours)

Students enroll in the following course:

MBU 3950: Talent Buying & Concert Promotion Strategies in New York City (6 hours)

Interested students will need to apply by January 9, 2017 to be a part of this 12-person class.  Interviews will take place in late January 2017.  Students will be notified of their acceptance into the class in late January 2017.  Prerequisite:  MBU 1110 (Survey of Music Business) or EIS 1220 (The Entertainment Industry).  This class is open to all majors from across the Belmont campus.

Eligibility:
  • Open to qualified Belmont students
  • Students can be from any discipline
  • Undergraduate students need GPA of 2.5 or above
Costs:
Costs: Program Fee + Tuition

1)     Program Fee: $5,500: Includes round-trip airfare from Nashville, housing, program-related excursions, in-city transportation, some meals, and student insurance.

2)     Belmont Tuition: Tuition is charged at the special study abroad tuition rate of 1/3 the cost of normal Maymester tuition. For every 3 hours of study abroad credit you register for, you pay for only one hour.

Credits:

Undergraduate: Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn six hours of Belmont University credit.

January 9, 2017: Once you complete the Belmont Abroad application online, you will also be sent a supplemental application to complete, which will need to be returned within two weeks of receiving it. Dr. Stewart will be in touch after that time to schedule your interview.
