AET, MOT, SNG @ The Belfast Nashville
Songwriters Festival

Students will have the opportunity to take part in the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival in Belfast, Northern Ireland, during Spring Break 2018. Courses are offered for AET, MOT and SNG majors centered on the festival. The program will also include visits to The Giant’s Causeway and the Titanic Experience. AET & SNG are 1-hour 8-week classes and MOT is a 1-hour full semester class. MOT students will have the opportunity to learn about documentary filmmaking and will be involved in a short documentary about the Festival. The AET class will spend a few days recording in Dublin before joining the rest of the group in Belfast. Students need permission of the instructors to register for the classes.

Spring Break Study Abroad:

Curriculum:

Students enroll in one of the following courses:

AET 2985: Belmont in Belfast Audio Engineering Study Abroad (1 credit hour)
AET and MBU Production Emphasis students will have the opportunity to participate in a recording session with an Irish artist at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin with various networking opportunities. Then students will participate in capturing audio at the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival. This is an 8-week class.

MOT 3895: Belmont in Belfast Documentary Filmmaking (1 credit hour)
MOT students will have the opportunity to learn about documentary filmmaking and will be involved in a short documentary about the Festival. This is a 1 credit full semester class for MOT majors only. Permission of Instructor required. This is a full semester class.

SNG 1895: Belmont in Belfast Songwriting (1 credit hour)
Songwriting majors will have the opportunity to perform at the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival and meet with local singer/songwriters. This is an 8-week class and the students will meet with professors several times before traveling to Belfast.

Eligibility:

  • Open to qualified Belmont students
  • Students can be from any discipline
  • Undergraduate students need GPA of 2.5 or above
Costs: Program Fee + Tuition

1)  Program Fee: $3,500: This fee will include round-trip airfare from Nashville, housing (including Wi Fi), some group
meals, group travel between destinations on the itinerary, student health insurance, and museum
and site admissions.

Costs not covered by the program fee include: Course texts/supplies, personal expenses for
additional travel, meals, and gifts/souvenirs.

2)  Belmont Tuition: Tuition is charged at the regular spring tuition rate. Only after a student is registered for 16 hours in the Spring Semester will this course will be charged for one hour instead of three.

Credits:

Undergraduate: Upon successful completion of the program, students will earn one to three hours of Belmont University credit.
