Spend a semester or four weeks in the summer immersed in Cuban culture, studying and getting to know the capital city of Havana—from the UNESCO World Heritage site to its many diverse suburbs. Explore subjects ranging from Cuban cinema, literature, and art to history, Marxism, and Spanish. Your courses will be complemented by a variety of field trips and outings, adding depth to your adventure in this island nation.

Dominican Republic: Santiago
Semester, Year
Improve your Spanish while gaining insight into the realities of life in the developing world of the Dominican Republic. In Santiago, you’ll immerse yourself in local culture, both on and off campus, through a combination of intensive coursework, homestays, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of cultural activities and excursions. In class you’ll study the language, politics, regional literature, and art. During rural work retreats, you’ll become part of life in the Dominican Republic.

Examine some of the great challenges the Dominican people face, and actively work to improve their lives on CIEE’s Service-Learning program. Through coursework, fieldwork, internships, cultural activities, and excursions, you’ll also improve your Spanish skills, and gain new abilities in research methodology, grant writing, critical analysis, and public speaking.

Dominican Republic: Santo Domingo
Semester (Spring)
Get to know the Dominican people and improve your Spanish skills in Santo Domingo. Through courses, an internship with a grassroots organization, and volunteer opportunities, you’ll learn about the the country’s rich history. Take your Spanish skills to the next level by studying and living with native speakers. Plus, learn about important topics like slavery and endangered mangroves both in class and out in the real world, while gaining valuable work experience.

The Dominican Republic has produced more major league baseball players per capita than any other country in the world. Spend your summer in Santo Domingo examining the impact of sports on the culture, identity, and society of this island nation.
