Sogang University

At a Glance

Located in the heart of Seoul, Sogang University was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1960 and is a Belmont Exchange Partner. Since its foundation, Sogang has grown into one of the most prestigious universities in Korea. Sogang seeks scholastic excellence by providing world-class education through its outstanding faculty, state-of-the-art research, quality educational programs and rigorous academic management system based on the Jesuit education philosophy. Around 3,000 exchange students study at Sogang annually.

Program Term 

Dates vary from year to year, but terms typically follow the following timeline:

  • Spring Semester: Early March – Mid-June
  • Fall Semester: Mid-August – Mid-December
Language Requirement

Although the main medium of instruction is Korean, many courses are offered in English, facilitating exchange students’ learning and reinforcing the globalization initiative at the university level. Exchange students may also register free of charge in Korean language courses offered by Sogang’s  Korean Language Education Center.

Gonzaga Hall with space for 950 students is located on campus for Korean and international students. Students are housed in double rooms and may choose between three meal plans

Student Life

There are a total of 75 student clubs and associations currently at Sogang University including Taekwondo, Korean traditional music, Korean traditional dance clubs, and many more related to the Korean culture. Students can also participate actively in areas such as sports and music. There are various campus ministry programs offered and the international office offers programs and activities for visiting international students. 


Seoul is the capital and largest metropolis in South Korea with a population of more than 25 million. Sogang is located in in one of several epicenters for university students and young people in general.  It is clustered among four comprehensive universities, providing a variety of off-campus activities for all.
