Master of Arts in Special Education
The Masters of Arts in Special Education Program (MASE) is an innovative program designed to prepare teachers for the 460 Special Education Modified (Mild/Moderate) license. The MASE allows candidates to teach special education (grades K-12th) while earning a degree and working toward full licensure. We believe the juncture between coursework and support while teaching in the real world, provides our candidates with the skills and contextual understanding of what it takes to be successful in the special education classroom. Instruction for the MASE is delivered using a tightly sequenced 2 1/2 year-30 credit hour cohort model. A new cohort begins each semester.
We are fortunate to have received for the seventh consecutive year a State of Tennessee Special Education Teacher Preparation Grant through June 2012. The grant covers tuition for 8-12 students pursuing the 460 Special Education Modified (mild/Moderate) license.
If the Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education is covered by this state grant, there is a 2-year commitment to teach Special Education i nthe state of Tennessee after completion of license. Books, related materials and additional fees will be the responsibility of the student. If a student is required to take an additional coursework to meet state requirements for licensure, they are responsible for paying full tuition to complete these additional courses.
All fees listed in the Graduate Bulletin will apply to graduate degree-seeking students. Please consult the bulletin for additional information.
