Master of Arts in Special Education (MASE)

Purpose:
Belmont University offers a licensure program in special education. The purpose of the program is to provide quality Special Educators to serve individuals with mild/moderate disabilities.

Currently, the program is open to teachers wanting to add the special education endorsement to their existing license as well as individuals who anticipate teaching on an alternate license within the academic year. Candidates successfully completing the program will meet Tennessee Department of Education licensure requirements for K-12 Modified Special Education (460) and a Master of Arts in Special Education from Belmont University.

Program Structure:
Instruction is delivered using a tightly sequenced two-year cohort model. The program is heavily field based with Practicum Supervision occuring in the candidate’s classroom. The next cohort begins July 2010.

The special education licensure program is 30 hours in length, all of which must be completed at Belmont. The State of Tennessee provides specific expectations for general education courses for all teachers. Depending on your undergraduate program, you may be required to complete some additional general education courses.
