Field Placement
Unique to Social Work is the Field Placement component. The Social Work student is rewarded for his/her successful completion of the Liberal Arts core and the Social Work major courses by being able to practice Social Work knowledge, values, and skills in an agency, supervised by a professional social worker.
These senior year Field Placements are selected with student interest at the heart of the placement. Of course, the Field Director will also make sure that the student is placed in an agency that meets standards, such as credentials of the supervisor and the availability of social work services to individuals, groups, families, organizations, and communities.
Our students complete their field placement in agencies that serve in the areas of:
- homelessness
- life threatening illnesses
- crisis pregnancy
- domestic violence
- at risk teens
- substance abuse
- immigration
- aging
- child welfare

Being in a metropolitan area has great advantages for placing social work students in field placements. Thousands of social service agencies are available for Belmont's social work students as field sites and as future places of employment. Belmont University has also placed field students internationally and nationally. We will work with the students to provide the best experience available.
