Service-Learning Task Force
Belmont's commitment to community engagement is currently
reflected in several service options including volunteer services,
the convocation program, and service-learning courses.
In 2000, the Office of the Provost allocated funding to a task
force made up of faculty, staff and students. The task force was
charged with using this 'seed money' to institutionalize
service-learning on campus, so that it can become a consistent part
of a student's education as promised in Belmont's vision and
mission statements.
Our present vision includes:
- A service-learning center
- A scholarship program to recruit and retain top students
- A stable, working relationship with 5-10 community agencies that would offer students a range of service opportunities
- Support for faculty as they learn about service-learning and use it in their classes
