Process for New Applicants
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2008-2009 academic year. This time of year is always very exciting for the Department of Residence Life because it is the time when we get to select the future leaders for our campus. The selection process is designed to not only allow us to interview you as a candidate, but to also help you in making an informed decision about the RA job and if it is right for you.
The application, which is the first step in the hiring process, can be accessed to the right. Please take a moment to look through it in its entirety before beginning, it is lengthy and must be completed in one setting. Once all applications are submitted, they will be evaluated and then you will be contacted to set up an interview time. After interviews are conducted the candidate pool will be narrowed and the remaining will be invited to participate in Group Process Day. Once all of that is completed then the 2007-2008 RA Staff will be selected.
Of those selected, some will be hired as RA Alternates. The main reason we hire alternates is because we always have more people that are qualified that we want to hire than we do available positions. Alternates are required to participate in Fall RA Training so that they are able to take over any RA positions that may become vacant throughout the year. If you are hired as an alternate, be patient. While we do not guarantee that every alternate will receive an RA position, all to date that have ever been selected and completed RA Training have been hired as an RA by the end of the academic year. Most of them even get a call before training even starts with a position offer.
