On teaching focus: "My original intent was to pursue the clinical
field, but I fell in love with teaching in graduate school. My
mentor suggested I 'test the waters' at a university that
emphasized teaching. That brought me to Belmont -- and I never
left. Consciously paying attention to how we can help students
learn is not lip-service here, it saturates the culture. To put it
simply, teaching comes first. Sure, we do research, but we do it
alongside students and look at it as another teaching
method."
On the Teaching Center: "The fact that Belmont has a Teaching Center says
a lot about how teaching is valued on this campus. It is designed
to help really good teachers become even better. This is a faculty
that talks and collaborates, constantly works on teaching. We all
know you can't fool students. They know when the energy, the
vitality, is there."
