Summer 2008

Several student groups from Belmont University travelled abroad this summer.  Several of those groups used blogs (online journals) to post their stories while overseas. The header  links below will direct you to the home page of each blog.

University Ministries - Global Outreach South Africa
Seven Belmont students and staff will be serving in Cape Town, South Africa July 4-19, 2008. The team will be working with local children’s clubs and hospices to spread the word about AIDS prevention and education. They will also be conducting a children’s club in one of the impoverished areas of the city.
The Rio Journal 2008
Belmont men and women basketball players travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil  working with local missionaries and congregations in ministry.  Betty Wiseman leads the group along with assistant volleyball coach, Tony Howell.
Mission to Cambodia
Six students from the Gordon E. Inman College of Health Science and Nursing are serving in Cambodia;  working with local clinics, hospitals, and other health professionsals. The team of nursing students is lead by Dr. Sharon Dowdy.
South Africa Studies Abroad
Nineteen students will be serving and studying abroad on Belmont’s second consecutive trip to Capetown, South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana.  Students will be focusing on the themes of truth, justice and poverty while taking courses in social entrepreneurship, writing and religion. The students will be working with local children’s clubs and hospices to spread the word about AIDS prevention and education. This year's group is led by Dr. Bonnie Smith.


Spring Break Missions 2008

Physical Therapy Mission to Guatemala
An eleven member team of Belmont University students and faculty served rehabilitation hospitals in Guatemala over Spring break. The group provided physical and occupational therapy to the needs of the local hospital as well as trained the hospital staff in up-to-date knowledge and treatment techniques. The students will also visited a local school and inspired students to pursue health professional goals.
