Dr. Fisher with PR Students

The Belmont University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) offers excellent co-curricular opportunities for students here. Belmont's PRSSA chapter has distinguished itself in student leadership excellence and professional development.  The chapter has received national PRSSA awards each year since 2006 in categories including ethics advocacy, chapter development, outstanding regional conference, and outstanding relationship with the sponsoring local professional chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Tower Creative Communications, the student-run firm, is nationally affiliated by PRSSA.

The chapter was chartered in 2005, one year following establishment of the public relations major at Belmont.  Belmont PRSSA has received a Star Chapter Award each year since the award was established in 2009, and is one of only two chapters nationally to claim this achievement. This distinction recognizes excellence in 10 different criteria including community service, ethics advocacy, and engagement with the sponsoring PRSA chapter. Members of the Belmont chapter regularly participate in regional and national PRSSA activities including the PRSSA National Conference.

Membership in the Belmont University chapter of PRSSA includes national PRSSA membership.  Membership is open to students who are interested in public relations.  Participation in the chapter offers benefits of leadership development, one-on-one mentoring by public relations professionals in the Nashville area, access to PRSSA Job Center resources, and regular professional development  opportunities.  The chapter sponsors monthly membership meetings with guest speakers as well as special events throughout the year.  Follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/BelmontPRSSA.

Belmont PRSSA sponsored PRSSA Regional Conferences in 2012 and 2015, for which the Chapter received the 2012 and 2015 PRSSA Teahan Awards for Outstanding Regional Conference. In 2014, faculty adviser Dr. Bonnie Riechert received the PRSSA Teahan Award for Outstanding Faculty Adviser, and in 2016, professional adviser Keith Miles of MPF PR received the PRSSA Teahan Award for Outstanding Professional Adviser. In 2015-16, Victoria Lewis of Belmont University served as the National PRSSA Vice President of Advocacy. The national PRSSA Teahan Award for Outstanding PRSA/PRSSA Relationship Award was received by PRSA Nashville and Belmont PRSSA in 2008, 2015 and 2017. Dr. Bonnie Riechert serves as faculty adviser to Belmont PRSSA, and Dr. Kevin Trowbridge serves as faculty adviser to Tower Creative Communications.
