Ken Corbit

KenCorbit

Dr. Ken Corbit is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Relations and its newest faculty member. Prior to attaining his PhD from the University of Alabama, in Strategic Communication, Ken had an extensive career in the business sector. In 2006 he was awarded the 40 Under 40 Award for San Diego, as well as numerous other organizational awards. He will teach a variety of courses including PR Cases, International PR, PR Writing I & II, First Year Seminar, and COM 1100.

Dr. Corbit brings a unique business and Public Relations perspective to the classroom. In nearly two decades of business to business experience, he had the opportunity to be involved with the foundational aspects of online media, both in advertising and client relationships, as well as crisis communication management strategies. Ken was also active in training and mentoring of junior managers during this time, which ultimately led to his transition from business to academia.

The educational preparation for Dr. Corbit was less than traditional. As a first generation college student, Ken lacked the proper skills and support to perform in the University setting, as such, he failed in his first 3 attempts. After returning as a non-traditional student, Ken completed his BA and MA at Arkansas State University, prior to his time at the University of Alabama.

This unique perspective is Dr. Corbit’s driving force in his pedagogical approach in the classroom. His focus is keenly on student success and relationship. He has led multiple study abroad trips with his students, as well as presented at multiple conferences with them; allowing him to be awarded the Professor of the Month at Arkansas State and Outstanding Teaching by a Doctoral Student Award from the University of Alabama.

Ken’s research interests include strategic organizational communications, argument construction, and message framing.
