Areas of specialization: Ancient Philosophy, Nietzsche, Ancient Greek language, art, literature, and history.
Recent areas of research and publication: Platonic metaphysics (Pure: Modernity, Philosophy, and the One. Sophia Perennis, 2009); response phrases in Platonic dialogues; Socrates' military career ("Socrates as Hoplite," Ancient Philosophy, fall 2005).
Current areas of interest: The epistemological assumptions of modernity and their impact on (our belief in the possibility of) metaphysics. Thinking through critiques of modernism based upon ancient conceptions of metaphysics and knowledge.
Chair of the Philosophy Department and faculty sponsor of philosophy discussion group, The Philologoi.
