About Dr. Marvanova
Dr. Marvanova has worked as practitioner, researcher and academician during her career, and possesses a wide array of professional, social and intellectual skills vital to successful leadership and instruction in pharmaceutical sciences. She is a registered pharmacist in the Czech Republic and holds current TN pharmacy licensure and Pharmacy-based immunizations certification. Dr. Marvanova recently finished a 3-year postdoctoral stint at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was involved with multiple studies of neuro-degeneration and neuro-protection of dopaminergic neurons in various animal models with emphases on developing new therapeutic interventions for Parkinson’s disease. Her research expertise is Parkinson’s disease and neuropharmacology using molecular, electrophysiological and histochemical approaches. She has published numerous manuscripts on her research interests in several peer reviewed scientific journals. She is currently involved research designing and developing stability criteria for numerous drugs in a variety of media at varying temperatures. Most recently, an interest in health professions education and clinical practice has emerged in the form of investigating the impact of interdisciplinary teaching in simulation-based classroom settings for nursing and pharmacy students’ learning. As Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Belmont University School of Pharmacy, Dr. Marvanova will be responsible for teaching such courses as: PHM 6115 Biochemistry for Pharmacy, PHM 6150 Microbiology & Immunology for Pharmacy, and selected series courses (PHM 6110, 6145, 6210, and 6240) on Pharmacodynamics. In her teaching practice, she will introduce laboratories involving health and medical assessments of simulated, hospital-based patient cases scenarios using computer-operated human patient simulators. Her ultimate teaching goal is “to enrich the educational pharmacy program, providing pharmacy students with a comprehensive knowledge base and relevant, applied clinical experience.” In her spare time, she enjoys watch movies, going to the gym and spending time with her husband, Paul, and their two pets, Idgie and Ruth.
