About  Dr. Kiningham

Dr. Kiningham joins the faculty at Belmont University School of Pharmacy after having trained in the Graduate Center for Toxicology at the University of Kentucky.  Following her graduate work which concentrated on the role of endogenous antioxidants in the neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, she trained as a postdoctoral fellow in the field of oxidative stress and cancer.  For the past seven years Dr. Kiningham has worked as a researcher and academician in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Toxicology at Marshall University where she received funding from the National Institutes of Health to further her research interests in mechanisms of thimerosal based neurotoxicity as well as vitamin A mediated differentiation and chemoresistance in a pediatric form of cancer known as neuroblastoma.  Throughout her career she has published numerous peer reviewed articles and served on the Leadership and Professional Development committee in the Society for Free Radicals in Biology and Medicine.   

Dr. Kiningham’s teaching responsibilities at Belmont University School of Pharmacy are currently in the Pharmacodynamic series as well as Microbiology and Immunology.  She has curricular interests in course development, classroom assessment and active learning modules.  Dr. Kiningham finds time to enjoy outside activities including volunteer work, baking, reading, bird-watching and her shih-tzu Kody.
