Assistant Professor, Pharmacy Practice
Pharm.D. (Pharmacy), St. Louis College of Pharmacy, St. Louis, MO
Dr. Ashton Beggs joined the Belmont faculty during the summer of 2012. She graduated cum laude from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri. Following graduation, Dr. Beggs completed an ASHP-Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Vincent Hospital as well as an ASHP-Accredited PGY2 Specialty Residency in Ambulatory Care at St. Vincent Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. During her residencies, she served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Her roles included co-precepting students on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, facilitating weekly therapeutics case discussions, and co-coordinating the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy elective.
Dr. Beggs’ practice focus is in ambulatory care, with a strong interest in the geriatric population. Her residency experiences afforded her opportunities to practice in interdisciplinary clinics (family medicine, internal medicine, geriatrics, asthma, cardiology, diabetes, hospital discharge) and pharmacist-run clinics (diabetes, heart failure, immunizations, anticoagulation).
As Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Dr. Beggs teaches in Pharmaceutical Care and the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience Seminars, in addition to guest lecturing in other courses related to ambulatory care. Dr. Beggs is establishing clinical pharmacy services at a local family medicine clinic. This practice will serve as an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience site for student pharmacists in their fourth year of the pharmacy curriculum.
