Increasing Independence in Self-Care Skills at Friends Life
Friends Life is a day program for young adults with developmental disabilities that is located in Nashville, Tennessee. The purpose of this residency project was to enhance family involvement and collaboration between the staff at Friends Life and parents regarding the development of daily living skills of the Friends. Workshops were created to educate parents on how to improve carryover of the life skills taught to their children at Friends Life. In addition, a parent and staff resource guide was created highlighting the information presented at the workshops. This guide has become an online “living document” for Friends Life to continually update. This way, the document will continue to grow and assist the Friends Life organization through the years as best practice and technology evolve.
