Education for Teachers on Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices (AAC), Inclusion, Collaboration, and Obtaining Grants for IPADS for use as AAC
The purpose of this culminating project was to increase the quality of life for elementary school students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices (AAC) at Fentress Elementary School in Clarkrange Tennessee. An online resource guide was created for faculty and staff members with recommendations on how to promote inclusion of children who use AAC into typical classroom and school activities. The resource guide also offers suggestions on how to improve collaboration between the teachers and therapists who work with these children. The guide was developed using data gathered from survey research on teacher knowledge of AAC devices, and extensive observation of classroom activities and social interaction among children who use AAC devices, their teachers and their peers at Fentress Elementary School.
