Cognitive Support Technologies for Cognitive Rehabilitation
This culminating project focused on the integration of cognitive rehabilitation and the use of cognitive support technologies to better serve clients with cognitive impairments. The use of high-tech devices such as external aids for memory, attention, and executive function can promote successful engagement in activities of daily living. My goal was to create educational materials for local OT clinicians and students concerning the use of cognitive support technologies in the field of OT. The outcomes of this project included: 1) an in-depth literature review of interventions for cognitive impairments, neuropsychological implications of TBI and PTSD in military personnel, and cognitive support technologies; 2) written analyses of existing assessments for cognitive rehabilitation, interventions for cognitive impairments, neuropsychological implications of TBI and PTSD in military personnel, and cognitive support technologies; 3) an assessment of need for educational materials for local therapists on the topic of cognitive support technologies; and 4) creation of educational materials on this topic for current OT and OTA students.
