Sensory Processing and Mental Health
Park Center is a non-profit organization located in Nashville, Tennessee, which provides recovery services to individuals with mental illness and co-occurring disorders. The purpose of this project was to research the sensory patterns and preferences of the members of Park Center, then design a sensory room based on the identified needs of the population at that specific site as well as best-practice. The final report included a review of the literature, a summary of the study and research findings, an architectural design for the room with recommendations for sensory items, client feedback forms, and written guidelines for the use of the room. Once implemented, the sensory room will provide the members of Park Center with a safe and comfortable space that can be utilized to facilitate stress reduction and self-regulation.
