Sensory Based Activities, Strategies, and Environmental Modifications for Youth Villages Inner Harbour Campus Children’s Unit
The purpose of this culminating project was to provide the staff members at Youth Villages Inner Harbour Campus in Douglasville, Georgia, with opportunities to learn about underlying sensory factors that may influence the behavior of youth at their facility, and to provide them with knowledge about sensory-based environmental modifications, strategies, and activities that can be used to support positive behaviors. Youth Villages Inner Harbour Campus is part of a private, non-profit organization and is one of Georgia’s largest psychiatric residential treatment programs for seriously emotionally disturbed youth. Following extensive onsite observation and a review of best practice in the literature, a resource manual of sensory-based strategies, activities, and environmental modifications was created for the staff to be used at that specific facility.
