Frequently Asked Questions
Is a bachelor's degree required to apply to the OTD Program?
Yes. This OTD program is designed for students who currently hold a baccalaureate (undergraduate) degree, or are in the process of earning one in any discipline other than OT. The 3 + 3 program where senior level students are able to be admitted will be discontinued after the class that is admitted Fall 2009. Please contact the Admission Assistant for more information.
I am in the process of completing my pre-requisites. Should I wait until I have my final grades to apply?
Many of our applicants are finishing up their pre-requisites or minimum credit hours when they apply. You may be eligible for a conditional acceptance based on your prior academic record. Please complete the Prerequisite Documentation Form with your application outlining your plans to meet the requirements. The OT Admissions Committee will consider each applicant once the application is processed by the Admission Assistant.
How long is the program and how many credit hours are required?
The OTD degree is a 3 year, full-time, seven semester program. There are 5 semesters of didactic coursework and clinical fieldwork I. The other 2 semesters include 2 clinical fieldwork II and an advance practice residency. A total of 109 semester credit hours are completed for the OTD degree. Click here for OTD curriculum.
How many students do you accept a year and when do they start?
We may admit up to 32 students per year. A new cohort class begins each fall semester.
When do classes meet?
Class times are typically held Monday through Thursday from 8 or 9 am to 5 or 6 pm but do vary by semester. Students attend fieldwork at clinical sites on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday.
What will it cost to complete my OTD at Belmont?
Tuition and fees change each academic year. You can view the current costs by accessing the Cost Estimator at Belmont's Office of Student Financial Services.
I'm not a Tennessee resident. Can I still apply?
Belmont University makes no distinction between in-state and out-of-state students for admission or tuition purposes.
How can prospective OTD candidates visit campus and meet with faculty?
Twice a year a Preview Day is held on a Saturday for prospective students to visit campus and hear a formal presentation about the OTD program. Faculty meets with those students who request an individual advising time. Current students provide classroom and laboratory tours and help answer your specific questions about the curriculum and faculty. Watch the OT Graduate Home Page for upcoming dates and times. Preview Days are typically held in October and February of each year. Individual appointments can also be arranged with the Admissions Assistant as time permits.
