The School of Occupational Therapy is housed in the Gordon E. Inman Center and has additional shared laboratory space with the School of Physical Therapy in the newly completed health sciences building which adjoins the Inman Center. State-of-the-art facilities include five specialized occupational therapy labs with a wide range of technologically advanced equipment to support a positive learning environment.
In the Neuroscience lab, there are computers, low vision technologies, a Doron 400 Driving Simulator with Plasma television and computer analyzer, anatomical models and skeletons, power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, patient lift systems, and positioning devices, all available for student learning.
The Activities of Daily Living Lab features an embedded apartment which allows students the opportunity to observe home activities and evaluate if a home is safe, especially for senior living safety issues. Included are two kitchens and bathrooms – one standard and the other with universal design features, audiovisual equipment, and bedroom, living room and dining areas for research and student learning activities.
The Media Technology Lab provides everything students need to help fashion the everyday objects individuals use without thought. Here future occupational therapists learn splinting, woodworking, casting, leatherworking and other skills that will teach them how to modify the simplest of household items.
The Musculoskeletal Lab provides access to patient plinths, thermal and electrical modalities, OT treatment intervention assessment and intervention equipment, and ergonomic and return to work equipment.
In the Pediatrics Lab, students gain experience with pediatric assessments and treatment interventions, Sensory Integrative equipment, pediatric wheelchairs and positioners, a ball pit, Sportwall and Makoto Arenas, balls, pediatric seating systems, and toys.
All of these labs contain audiovisual equipment including Smart Boards, DVD, CD, Computers, and PowerPoint projections.
