Mission for Leadership Development

To provide educational and experiential opportunities that empower students to enhance their self-efficacy and to understand the impact they can make, whether as positional leaders or active participants in a group or community process - all defined by a distinctly Christian understanding of leadership. (CAS Standards)

As defined, "self-efficacy" is the extent or strength of one's belief in one's own ability to complete tasks and reach goals. Self-efficacy affects every area of human endeavor. By determining the beliefs a person holds regarding his or her power to affect situations, it strongly influences both the power a person has to face challenges competently and the choices a person is most likely to make".

Leadership Development serves Belmont's Mission by providing opportunities to "prepare students to use disciplined intelligence, compassion, courage and faith to meet the challenges and opportunities that face the human community". It is crucial to make the student learning experience "seamless" and create connections that integrate the curricular and co-curricular contexts. "Leadership experiences enhance student learning and cognitive, psychosocial, moral and ethical development".
