Honor Societies
Alpha Chi (open to all majors)membership is the highest academic honor awarded by Belmont University. Its requirements are to be in the top 10% academically of all students, and to be of junior or senior class rank. Alpha Chi members are nominated by the faculty and must have outstanding moral character and display leadership, integrity, and service. Belmont University is the Eta Chapter of Alpha Chi in Region III. Alpha Chi chapters can be found at more than 300 colleges and universities in 45 states. The name of Alpha Chi derives from the initial letters of the Greek words meaning TRUTH and CHARACTER.
Alpha Psi Omega is a national Theatre Honor Society. The purpose of Alpha Psi Omega is to stimulate interest in theatre actvities at Belmont University. The society provides a reward for members by their participation in theatre activities on campus and in the community.
Beta Alpha Psi is an international honorary organization for all undergraduate and graduate accounting, finance and information systems majors. BAP recognizes scholastic and professional excellence and complements members' formal educations by providing interaction among students, faculty, and professionals, and fosters lifelong growth, service and ethical conduct. BAP holds monthly meetings, where professionals from various industries offer students insight into their careers and answer student questions. BAP also sponsors social functions to allow students to interact and network with local firms and employers.
Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society (Biology) is a national honor society that stimulates scholarship, disseminates scientific knowledge, and promotes biological research. Membership is based on superior academic achievements and interest in life sciences.
Beta Chi to encourage research opportunities and exposure through seminar speakers and monthly meetings. (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Club).
Gamma Beta Phi Society (open to all majors) is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages excellence in education; promotes the development of leadership ability and character in its members; and fosters, disseminates, and improves education through appropriate service. A student must have completed at least 12 semester hours of university work and have maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for membership.
Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society in education that has 55,000 members around the world. Membership is open to outstanding undergraduate education students (must be at least a sophomore), graduate students in education, Belmont faculty, and practicing P-12 teachers.
Phi Alpha (Social Work) recognizes and encourages excellence
in education, promotes the development of leadership ability and
character in its members, and fosters, disseminates, and improves
education through service.
Phi Eta Sigma (freshman of all majors)is a national honor society whose intent is to encourage and reward academic excellence among first year students. Membership is by invitation only and is based on an academic GPA of 3.5 or better.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity (Music) is a national honorary fraternity for men that is dedicated to advancing the cause of music in America and fostering the brotherhood of music students. Membership is by invitation only to those interested in the development and furtherance of music.
Phi Sigma Iota (Foreign Language) encourages students to achieve academic excellence in pursuing studies in a foreign language.
Phi Sigma Tau (Philosophy) serves as a means of awarding distinction to students of philosophy, promoting student interest in the field, providing opportunities for publication of student research papers, encouraging a professional spirit and friendship among those who have ability in the field, and popularize interest in philosophy among the general collegiate public.
Pi Theta Epsilon is the national occupational therapy honor society. The mission of Pi Theta Epsilon is to promote research and scholarship among occupational therapy students. Belmont students shall be invited to apply for membership if they are enrolled in an accredited and/ or professional occupational therapy program; have attained second semester junior standing or have completed nine semester hours in the program; have at least one entire semester remaining after initiation before they leave for a fieldwork placement; are among the top 20 % of the occupational therapy class and no less than at the top 35% of the university class; have at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, evidence & submission of a piece of scholarly work completed while enrolled in the occupational program; and submit a 250 word essay stating why they wish to join Pi Theta Epsilon.Psi Chi (Psychology) is a scholastic honor, leadership, and service organization that encourages, stimulates, and maintains excellence in scholarship of members in all fields, particularly in psychology; it also seeks to advance the science of psychology. Membership is open to psychology majors or minors who have completed nine hours of psychology at Belmont and are enrolled in a program leading to the bachelor's degree.
Rho Lambda is a national Panhellenic honor society which honors women who are juniors and seniors within the Panhellenic community who have been outstanding in the display of demonstrated leadership, ability, and loyalty to the Panhellenic community and their sorority. The maximum number of new members elected in any year shall be ten percent of the total Panhellenic membership.
Sigma Alpha Iota (Music) is an international music fraternity for women promoting sisterhood and mutual interests with great artists, teachers, composers, and students of music throughout the world. Membership is based on scholarship and music ability and is by invitation to those interested in the development and furtherance of music.
Sigma Tau Delta (English) is a national honor society offering the opportunity for furthering cultural stimulation, for formation ethical principles, for developing skills in creative and critical writing, and for fostering a spirit of fellowship. Membership is open to all students majoring or minoring in English or foreign language and who maintain a 3.5 average in language study and have a 3.0 cumulative average.
Sigma Theta Tau is the international honor society of nursing. It recognizes excellence in scholarship, research, & practice. Membership is by invitation only to undergraduate & graduate students & is based on outstanding scholarship, high professional standards, & development of leadership qualities. The name of the organization is derived from the initial letters of the Greek words meaning Love, Courage, & Honor.
Theta Epsilon Tau (pre-Health) provides academic, extracurricular, and career guidance for students at Belmont entering careers in health sciences.
