Historians of the fraternity have stressed three fundamental
characteristics which guided the founders in establishing this
association:
- Emphasis upon innate worth as a qualification for membership.
- Democratic nature of the organization.
- Spiritual ideals.
'It is important to note that from its very beginning
the fraternity was concerned only with the potential and personal
work of the individual man. The only aristocracy recognized by the
group was the aristocracy of achievement.'
