How to Apply

Admissions Requirements

  • 1. Apply to the University

Complete and submit the application for undergraduate admission

    2. Compile a Portfolio

In addition to meeting the general requirements for admission to the university, students who intend to pursue a degree in Art Education, Studio Art, Design Communications and Experiential Design must also submit a portfolio of work in art and/or design to the Department of Art. Transfer students, as well as new first-year students, must submit portfolios. Students seeking a BA in Art History do not need to submit a portfolio.

The portfolio should include 20 digital images of your artwork, containing two or more different media to reflect diversity and breadth of experience. Include a numbered checklist corresponding to the images, stating the size, date and medium of each piece, and indicating the correct viewing position. All 3D works must include at least one additional viewpoint. Also, include a one-page statement of purpose that articulates a personal vision and communicates the student's desire to pursue a degree in art or design.

    3. Submit Your Portfolio

After submitting the Belmont University application for undergraduate admission, applicants will receive an email about portfolio submission. Portfolios are submitted through Accepted. Applicants will be notified of an admissions decision to the BFA in Studio Art or BA in Art within 2-3 weeks of the portfolio review (dependent on acceptance to Belmont).

    4. Receive the Admissions Decision

You must be accepted by the university before being admitted to the department. Once you have received notice of acceptance from the Office of Admissions, you will receive a separate letter from the Department of Art welcoming you into the program. All portfolios received, or postmarked, by December 1 will be reviewed by a group of faculty members from the Department of Art to determine the recipients of the Leu Art Scholarships.
