ARREST – Sexual Assault reported 2/9/2015  

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) advises that Samir Hindieh has been arrested for the sexual assault of a Belmont student in his cab February 8th. Hindieh, who is currently free on bond, has also been charged with an assault that occurred on New Years Day.

Anyone with information about Hindieh is asked to call the Sex Crimes Office at 615-862-7540.

Even though an arrest has been made in this case, the Office of Campus Security encourages you to continue to make your safety a priority by following these safety tips:

  • Travel in groups, especially at night.
  • Use the buddy system. Communicate your whereabouts and stay together when travelling.
  • Travel in well-lit and well-populated areas.
  • Use the security escort service provided by Campus Security when on campus.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings. Keep your eyes up and alert.
  • Trust your instincts – if you feel unsafe, get to a safe location; walk confidently and with purpose away from the risk and call Campus Security or the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Timely Warning – Sexual Assault

Reporting Date / Time:         2/9/2015 Approximately 10:30 am

Incident Location: Between Demonbreun Street and Campus

Incident Information:

A student reported that as she was leaving the 1500 block of Demonbreun at about 1:00 am Sunday, February 8th, she got in a cab that was standing in front of one of the businesses. She got into the front passenger seat and reports that at one point the driver reached over and fondled her. She told him to stop; however, he continued and then sexually assaulted her.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has been notified and is investigating.

Description:

The cab was described as a minivan that was either orange or partially orange

The driver was described as a male, possibly of Indian descent, with a heavy accent who was approximately 30 years old.

SECURITY ALERT
Date: 04/15/2014

Time: Approximately 7:00 p.m.
 
Location: Rose Park Athletics field 1000 Edgehill Avenue
 
Incident information: Metro Police received a report that two (non-Belmont affiliated) persons had been robbed in the swimming pool parking lot of the Rose Park Athletics field shortly after 7 pm Tuesday, April 15th. The victims reported that they were walking to their car when they were approached by two males, one of whom had a silver handgun. The suspects demanded the victims' valuables, took their wallets, money, and cell phones, and then fled the area on foot.
 
Suspect descriptions:
The suspects were described as black males wearing dark clothing. One had on baggy pants and a dark hoodie. The other had on dark pants and a pullover sweat shirt. One of the males had dreadlocks.

DATE: 01/14/2014

TIME: Approximately 6:00 p.m.

LOCATION: House on 15th Avenue South across from Academic and Dining Construction site.

INCIDENT INFORMATION: At approximately 6:00 p.m., a Belmont student living in a house on 15th Avenue South reported noticing a laptop missing from a bedroom in the house after she had been in the bathroom and left the front door unlocked for a guest to arrive. At present we have unconfirmed reports of a suspect but no reliable physical description. Regardless, all members of the Belmont campus community are urged to secure their belongings behind locked doors in their on and off campus residences.

REMEMBER:
•Lock exterior doors to your residence at all times
•Do not open the door to strangers, especially when home alone
•Keep a record of valuables serial numbers
•Report suspicious activity immediately

SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY ALERT

This security alert supplements the alert issued on January 14, 2014 to include a description of the suspect. Earlier this evening a residence on 15th Avenue approximately four blocks north of Wedgewood Avenue was broken into. The description of the suspect in that crime is similar to an unconfirmed description of a possible suspect related to the theft reported from the house on 15th Avenue across from the academic and dining construction site.

  • Approximately 180 lbs
  • Approximately 6’0
