Nursing has been the door to many life changing experiences for me. I received a BSN from Western Kentucky University and practiced as a staff nurse in medical/surgical, IV therapy, and general and vascular surgical units. I developed an interest in the nutritional support of acutely ill patients and went to graduate school at Vanderbilt to receive an MSN in adult health (acute/critical care). I practiced as a clinical nurse specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center on the nutrition support team for several years before getting involved in nursing education. In 2006 I completed the PhD in educational leadership with a focus on higher education.

I began teaching adult health clinical (part time) at Belmont in 1992 when my two daughters were very young. Over the years I have enjoyed investing in the lives of students and have developed close relationships with the School of Nursing faculty and staff members. I love teaching at Belmont and I believe it is a wonderful place for students to get excellent preparation for professional practice.

I currently teach pharmacology and nutrition for our undergraduate nursing students but I am also interested in testing and analysis, NCLEX review, medication error prevention, clinical simulation, point of care technology, nutrition support, drug-nutrient interactions, and substance abuse among students.

The most important thing I can tell you about myself is how important my faith is to me. My relationship with God is the cornerstone of my life. My world view is filtered through what I know about God and His grace in my life. I love teaching at Belmont where my faith is nurtured as I teach and learn with my students and colleagues.
