South Africa Mission
In recent years, the Belmont University School of Nursing, in conjunction with Belmont's International Studies program, sponsored a unique service learning course opportunity in Durban, South Africa.
Belmont Nursing faculty Judy Gunter developed the program in cooperation with the nursing faculty at the University of Natal in Durban, South Africa.
The course provides a personal view of the AIDS pandemic and how it affects the social, physical and spiritual roots of a nation.
Student participants will experience first hand the critical role that nursing can play in the lives of others. This learning experience takes place amid the vast beauty of African jungles, lush mountains and seashores - it also exposes its participants to povery stricken areas too modest to describe.
