Healthcare Delivery - Brazil
During the summer of 2000, five Belmont University nursing students and two nursing faculty had the opportunity of a lifetime - to participate in a medical mission trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The trip was conducted in conjunction with Brentwood Baptist Church, which has an ongoing medical ministry with the Frist Baptist Church of Frequelsa in Rio.Prior to leaving on the trip, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, in conjunction with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board, provided an in-depth orientation for the group. This helped students prepare intellectually and spiritually for the challenges of medical missionary work.
Belmont nursing faculty offered ongoing mentoring and support for students involved with the program and provided them with regular training to improve their nursing skills and knowledge of pharamacology.
The mission trip was an excellent experience, linking the Tennessee Baptist Convention, Brentwood Baptist Church and Belmont's School of Nursing through collaboration and Christian service in practice.
