Performance Venues

Massey Performing Arts Center

The Massey Performing Arts Center (MPAC) is across the walk-way from the Wilson Music Building (WMB). Home to Belmont's primary performance venues, MPAC is in motion year round with student recitals, concert events, school assemblies, classes and musical productions. Massey Concert Hall is our 1000-seat auditorium with its state-of-the-art live audio production capabilities. Smaller chamber recitals and concerts are hosted in Harton Hall, our more intimate 100-seat venue. Also home to MPAC are 11 practice rooms (with 2 exclusive percussion practice rooms), three large classrooms and a full dance studio.

Serving both commercial and classical genres, Massey Concert Hall has held numerous events and recitals with top named artists and musicians. Country artists (such as Vince Gill, Billy Dean and Crystal Gayle), rock artists (such as Jars of Clay), CCM artists (such as Rebecca St. James and Bob Carlyle) as well as many of our own renown music faculty have all performed on the Massey stage. Extensive costume and set design productions for Belmont Opera Theatre and Belmont Musical Theatre have provided beneficial in-house training for students in the musical arts.

Troutt Theater

Belmont University has named the new 300-seat proscenium theater after former Belmont president and his wife, Bill and Carole Troutt.  The Troutt Theater, located in the new theater complex on Belmont Boulevard, is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and audio equipment and serves as a performance and teaching facility.  The Troutt Theater is the premier facility in Nashville and has been the stage of choice for productions by The Nashville Shakespeare Festival, The Actor’s Bridge Ensemble, The Nashville Children’s Theatre, The Nashville Ballet, The People’s Branch Theatre, Salama Ministries, Rejoice Ministries, and Orchestra Nashville. The Troutt Theatre is the home for the winter production of The Nashville Shakespeare Festival and The Actors Bridge/Belmont annual collaborative production.

Harton Recital Hall

Harton Recital Hall is our classical acoustic venue. With tiered seating for 100 people, Harton Recital Hall is an excellent intimate venue for classical solo recitals, chamber music recitals and master classes. Recently renovated, Harton Recital Hall provides a vibrant setting for classical through contemporary chamber works.

Harton Recital Hall is filled with activity throughout the year: undergraduate and graduate student recitals, guest lecturers, panel discussions, guest concerts, ensemble concerts and rehearsals.

The Black Box Theatre

The Black Box Theatre is a 150-seat experimental performance and classroom venue located on Compton Ave. behind the new Troutt Theater. This venue is the second stage for the Department of Theatre and Dance and a classroom facility for all movement based performance courses. The Black Box is a flexible performance space with moveable seating risers and is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and audio equipment. The Black Box is the home for The Actors Bridge Ensemble.
