Kris Elsberry

Dr. Kris Elsberry

Dr. Kris Elsberry is a Professor of Music at Belmont University. As a member of the Belmont faculty since 1981, she has taught form and analysis, theory, aural skills, counterpoint, theory review, theory pedagogy, senior capstone, and applied piano.  Her administrative experiences include Coordinator of Music Theory, Associate Dean for Academic Studies in the School of Music, Assistant Director of the Belmont University Teaching Center, and Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Music.

Dr. Elsberry is a founding member of and performer in Belmont Camerata, a resident faculty chamber music ensemble.  A frequent collaborator with faculty artists, she has performed in Germany, Austria, New York, California, and throughout the Midwestern and Southeastern United States.  In 2006, she and colleague Elisabeth Small, violin, participated in a faculty exchange with the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and performed in Magdeburg and Dresden, Germany.  Dr. Elsberry has studied piano with Elizabeth Buday, Winfried Wolf, Edward Kilenyi, and Lynn Rice-See; and chamber music with Menahem Pressler.  Her additional performance study includes the Internationalen Sommerakademie at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

As panelist for the Music Teachers National Association National Convention, Dr. Elsberry has been published in American Music Teacher on pedagogy. She has been a guest clinician for the Nashville chapters of Piano Guild and Music Teachers National Association.  Dr. Elsberry is a frequent adjudicator at area piano competitions and a teacher in the Belmont Piano Camp.

Dr. Elsberry received a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Theory and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Shorter College.  She is a member of the College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Iota Fraternity.
