James Kimmel



James KimmelJames Kimmel is an Associate Professor of Music at Belmont University where he teaches conducting and music education classes in addition to directing Company and the Belmont Pops Chorale ensembles.

Mr. Kimmel received a Master of Music Education from Northwest Missouri State University, a Bachelor of Music Education from Hastings College in Nebraska and completed additional studies at Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Mr. Kimmel has been an active personality among music educators and a popular choral clinician. He received the distinguished Robert M. McCowan Award from the Iowa Choral Directors Association (1989), in addition to the Jaycees 'Outstanding Young Educator Award.' He is the past-President of the Iowa Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and served the 1995-1997 Presidential term of the Illinois chapter. In 1996, Mr. Kimmel received the Outstanding Music Educator of the Year Award from the Belmont University chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. In 1997, the Illinois Choral Directors commissioned composer Stephen Paulus to write a twelve and one half minute work entitled Musiquotes in honor of Mr. Kimmel's service to the state's choral directors.

Mr. Kimmel, also the choral editor of Kimmel Productions, recently authored 'A Handbook of Structured Experiences - exercises designed to build the team with the choir.' He is currently Minister of Music at First United Methodist Church in Franklin.
