Rahsaan Barber
Mr. Rahsaan Barber is an Adjunct Instructor of Saxophone in the School of Music. Mr. Barber earned a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, a Graduate Artist Diploma in Saxophone from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Indiana University. His saxophone studies have been under the direction of Dr. David Baker, Dr. Tom Walsh, Mr. Jeff Coffin and Mr. Dick Oatts.
Mr. Barber is an established saxophonist, composer and educator. He has been involved with the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Summer Academy, Ravinia's Steans Institute and Kennedy Center's Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program. Co-leading the Barber Brothers Jazz Quintet, Mr. Barber has performed at numerous festivals and conferences, including the 2004 International Association of Jazz Educator's Conference. Mr. Barber's resume as a performer includes notable appearances with the late Al Grey, Bobby Sanabria, Winard Harper and Manny Oquendo Y Libre. He was selected as one of only four Americans to perform at the 2003 World Saxophone Competition held at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Mr. Barber has experience as a private applied instructor, jazz ensemble director, jazz lecturer and performance clinician with students ranging in age from middle school to adult learners.
