Jazz String Septet
Belmont Jazz String Septet, directed by Billy Contreras.
Belmont Jazz String Septet combines an amplified string quartet with a traditional rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums. It specializes in adapting classic horn arrangements for use with a string ensemble. The focus of the course is the preparation of jazz string septet arrangements and development of alternative string techniques and the ability to solo in a jazz ensemble. Attention is given to ensemble playing in the style of jazz horn sections.
Rehearsals are scheduled by the director. This course offers one hour of ensemble credit.
