Belmont Symphony Orchestra




University Symphony Orchestra (MUN 4930) was founded in 1984 with the arrival to Belmont of its current director, Dr. Robert Gregg. It is a symphony orchestra made up of 80+ instrumentalists with more than 50 string players. Performances are given at least twice a semester, with a typical concert year including:

  • 1 or 2 standard orchestral concerts
  • a performance with the Belmont choral ensembles at Christmas
  • a performance 'in the pit' with either the Opera Workshop or Musical Theatre
  • a special performance at the annual President's Concert.
  • participation in the Classical Performers' Concert.

Any Belmont student is eligible to join the orchestra. All string players are needed and accepted, but a short audition is required for seat placement. Wind and percussion instrumentalists are by audition only. Orchestra offers one hour of ensemble credit.

Rehearsals are on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30pm-7:00pm.
