Student Achievements

  

The Country Music Association recently selected Belmont University Courtney Drake, a journalism major and editor of the Belmont Vision, as the first recipient of the CMA Close Up Award of Merit.

At the 2008 Southeast Journalism Conference in Oxford, Miss., on Feb. 22-23, Belmont ranked No. 2 overall in on-site competition and brought home more than a dozen awards in the annual Best of the South student media competition. In the on-site category:

  • Vision Managing Editor/News Melanie Bengtson won for First Amendment writing.

  • Managing Editor/Features Adaeze Elechi took first in feature writing,

  • Graphics Editor Sarah Mitchell finished first  page design (magazine) layout

  • Abby Selden earned to top award in news writing. 

Incoming belmontvision.com editor Melanie Bengtson was named SEJC student president for 2008.

Senior Jeannette Ceja was named one of 45 Chips Quinn Scholars and earned a full-time summer internship at The Tennessean working in the Web site department.

December 2007 graduate Chris Cerenelli landed a general assignment reporting job at Fox affiliate JET-TV in Erie, Pa.

Recent grad Sarah Snyder landed a reporting job at NewsWest9.com in Midland, Texas, following a successful internship at washingtonpost.com

Chansin Bird received the 2007 President’s Award for Collegiate Journalism from the Baptist Press.
