A native of the Czech Republic, Alena Wenker studied Russian at the J.E. Purkyně University in Úts ínad Labem, as well as in Moscow, Vladimir, St. Petersbourg, and Volgograd. After earning her doctorate in the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language, she taught at UJEP for five years.During this time Dr. Wenker served as an official translator. Since moving to the U.S. in 1993, she has taught at Belmont University, MTSU, and TFLI. She also served in the role of translator for various governmental agencies and businesses.
