Getting starting:
1. After connecting, update your operating system
-turn on Automatic Updates for Windows XP
-OR Windows Users can visist http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
2. Make sure you have anti-virus software installed with updated definitions
-If you do not have anti-virus, free versions are available:
-AVG Free Edition (free.grisoft.com)
-AntiVir Personal Edition Classis (www.free-av.com)
3. Use an anti-syware prgoram
-Some anti-virus and security suites can scan for spyware and adware, but many
do not. Some free anti-spyware programs include:
-Microsoft Windows Defender Beta 2 (www.microsoft.com)
-Spybot-Search & Destroy 1.3 (www.safer-networking.org)
4. Use a Firewall
- At a minimum, you should enable the Windows XP Firewall. Other free
firewalls that offer better protection include:
1. ZoneAlarm (www.zonelabs.com)
2. Comodo Firewall
(www.personalfirewall.commodo.com)
Special notes on Keeping your Computer
Secure and Protecting your data:
- Turn off file sharing.
- Install a spyware catcher such as Microsoft Anti-Spam which is free
- Backup your personal files and music on a regular basis
- If you have a laptop, lock your room and keep it safe.

- You need to bring a coax cord
- The bookstore has splitters if you need
- If you get only channels 2-12 you need to reprogram your TV
