Network and Internet

Network/Internet Services

Belmont University provides a state-of-the-art Nortel and Cisco network for students, faculty, and staff that...

  • facilitates academic pursuits
  • provides quick, secure access to administrative systems
  • provides internet access for the campus community
  • fosters campus collaboration

The campus network is designed to be a high speed backbone providing a fast and secure way to connect to each other and the Internet.   Each data closet is connected to the core network via fiber.   Every data port on campus that is wired to a data closet is connected and "hot" at a  speed of 10 to 100MB.   To access the network, every computer must be registered before it is allowed to fully take advantage of the University's resources.  Students enjoy a decicated secure network for RESNET providing high speed access to the Internet.

There are currently over 4,000 active data ports on campus.   There is also a wireless data network that supplements the wired network with over 560 802.11g access points located throughout the campus.   The campus network is also connected through a WAN to Cool Springs, Ocean Way and other facilities for data and voice services.   This allows faculty, staff, students, and guests to stay connected wherever they go on campus.  For more information about Belmont's network contact Network Services at 460-5448.

Our University is able to access the Internet via a DS3 (750 mbps) fiber connections through  NetTN the state educational network.
